AND THE REVIEWS ARE IN!

CHICAGO, Arkansas Repertory Theatre

"What’s more, Director/Choreographer Ron Hutchins’ vision held back none of the fire and sex. (Hutchins was a longtime friend and collaborator of the late Rep founder Cliff Fannin Baker, who would no doubt have insisted on such an interpretation.) A successful “Chicago” is all lips and hips and heavy breath, and Hutchins’ cast was hot as hell, every shoulder roll and hip thrust done with wild intention and definition.

“In a brilliant coup de theatre, the company comes to the edge of the stage in a single line blended as fellow members of humanity. For the first time, the hostility, the cynicism, the wariness that dominated their faces is banished, replaced by a beatific expression of peace and harmony. And then it disintegrates as the hatred and hardness reestablish themselves, and the dream evaporates. The dance is dictated in the script, but lining them where we can see those expressions was conceived by choreographer Ron Hutchins and executed by a dancing corps whose faces mirror their characters’ souls”.

Arisco is again at the helm, this time collaborating with choreographer Ron Hutchins, who channels original director-choreographer Jerome Robbins and melds that style with his own creative ideas. In terms of movement, the result is thrilling, making West Side Story one of the best-danced shows South Florida has seen in many years”.

“Hutchins has quoted liberally from Jerome Robbins’ iconic vocabulary that the genius developed out of modern dance, ballet and musical theater tropes. Hutchins had to; fans of the film would have felt cheated without the visuals of street toughs with cold eyes venting their anger with explosive movement that is both spasmodic and graceful. But Hutchins’ own vision is melded throughout, and audiences must acknowledge that Hutchins has elicited razor-sharp physical performances out of this troupe”.

RAGTIME, The Actors Playhouse

“It has been a hell of a successful couple of years for choreographer Ron Hutchins but he may have outdone himself with this work that is so fresh and inventive even in recreating period dance styles, notably the exuberant “Getting’ Ready Rag.”

"But Huey turns things around when he sings “The Music of My Soul” — Egan really is a soulful, charismatic singer — which moves everyone in the club to raise their voices as they move to Hutchins’ exuberant, intricate, expressive choreography”.

SPAMALOT, The Actors Playhouse

"Amping up the feeling of the originality is the work by Hutchins... Even when some bits are dictated by the script… Hutchins brings his own stamp and plié while joyously embracing every Broadway chorus line move and adding daffy runs at tap dancing knights, disco infernos, an arty pas de deux between a friar and a nun, even a bit of Michael Jackson’s 'Thriller.'”

Choreographer Ron Hutchins contributes splashy, witty dance numbers that are perfectly in the spirit of the show”

CAROUSEL, The Actors Playhouse

"Choreography is a major part of the storytelling in “Carousel,” particularly in the ballet danced by Billy’s unhappy teen daughter Louise (Alexandra Van Hasselt) and the character called Carnival Boy (Macia McGeorge). Ron Hutchins gets lovely, expressive work from the actors in that critical number..."

FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE, Broward Stage Door Theater

"If the show has a star besides Louis Jordan, it has to be director-choreographer Ron Hutchins, who has drilled these performers into a diamond sheen. His dancers strut and spin, high kick and conga despite having little floor space”.

HOT MIKADO, Broward Stage Door Theater

"The sequence is choreographer-director Ron Hutchins' vision of what "Bojangles" Robinson likely did in the 1939 production, and Christopher George Patterson's joyous execution is pure hallelujah”.

42nd STREET, The Wick Theater

"Hutchins’ talent blazes as if he was hit with a carbon arc lamp. From the precision stampede of the group numbers to the delicate moves of the duets to blazing solo turns, this is classic Broadway choreography as it is rarely seen in South Florida”.

"How much is Hutchins’ original footwork and how much is that of the original choreographer/director Gower Champion is impossible for a civilian to say, but Hutchins has indisputably led and forged the terpsichorean excellence on view”.
